To become a certified PADI Open Water Scuba Diver you will need to complete the following

Dive Theory

You can either study your scuba dive theory together with your dive instructor here at Water Baby.
Alternatively, prepare ahead of time using the PADI e-learning online course. Once you have the “certificate of completion” all we have left are the fun parts of the course!
Theory consists of reading, knowledge reviews, quizzes and final exams on the following areas.

Confined Water Dives

Confined water is defined as either swimming pool or shallow calm water training.
These are split up into 5 separate dives in which you will be learning an array of skills that you will need to prepare yourself for diving out in open water!
These 5 dives can take anywhere from 1 to 1.5 days to complete.

Waterskills Assessment

To confirm that you have a basic level of water skills you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • In water too deep to stand, complete a 10 minute float / tread water
  • Continuous surface swim for 200 metres/yards or alternatively, 300 metres/yards with mask and fins

Open Water Dives

This is the part you’ve been waiting for. Open water dives are real dives! As part of the course you will do 4 open water dives.
Dive 1 and 2 will be anywhere from 2 – 12 metres / 6 – 40ft in depth
Dive 3 and 4 will be anywhere from 4 – 18 metres / 12 – 60 ft in depth.

Once you have completed the PADI Open Water Diver Course you are a fully certified diver and are qualified to go diving together with another diver certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or higher.
We will give you a temporary certification card on completion so you can start to enjoy the breathtaking Scuba Diving in Panama! In a few short weeks your official certification card will arrive in the mail.
